|DE-COMMISSIONING OF POWER STATION EXHAUST WINDBREAK
|The close proximity of the new tower & houses an accurate safe clean method was needed.|
The power station had to continue running while a new exhaust windbreak and building was constructed close to the existing tower. EC Hopkins was tasked with finding a method to remove the old tower, other factors to be taken into consideration were the close proximity of houses in a residential area as well as other business. The concrete had a large amount of rebar and needed to be handled safely with minimum dust and contamination.
We recommended the hydraulic ICS 880F4 Diamond chainsaw powered from the GT18 Power pack. With the operators working from a suspended platform, lifting eyes were attached to a section and with the crane in position they used the ICS saws to first make an accurate horizontal cut and then two vertical cuts, the water feed through the saw keeping the dust to a minimum. Whilst the crane supported the weight of the cut section, these were then lowered to the ground below.
The ICS 880F4 diamond chainsaws with low vibration and powerful motors enabled a large number of cuts to be made each day, thus ensuring the project was achieved on time and in budget with no disruption to the power station, local residents and businesses.
